Zebra River Camp

Zebra River Camp is a small tented camp in the forest on a bend of the Talek River, in the Maasai Mara. There are 15 rooms and one family tented villa, 34 guests at most, and every one of them faces the river: the front wall of each tent is glass, so the view of the water and the plains is not broken by canvas. The rooms are large — 77 m² — with double or twin beds, an indoor lounge, a private balcony, a study desk, and an en-suite bathroom with an indoor shower, hot and cold running water, twin vanity and a flushing toilet. Each has a mini bar, a tea and coffee station, a safe, mosquito nets and fans.

The main area has lounges that run into a fully stocked bar, with balconies and shaded terraces for the middle of the day, an indoor restaurant and outdoor dining areas, and a bonfire at night. There is a swimming pool, and massages are given in the tents. Power runs 24 hours and there is Wi-Fi, though the connection can be slow this far out. The river below the camp has hippos and crocodiles and a lot of birds; the plains game is on the other side. Game drives go out in open-sided 4x4 Land Cruisers with KPSGA-rated guides, and a party of four or more gets a vehicle to itself; transfers from the Talek, Musiara and Sekenani gates and airstrips are part of the rate. The camp is open all year.
