Sarova Mara

Why it works

A place with a sense of place.

Sarova Mara Game Camp is in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve, off the C12 road in Narok County. The tents are built in light beige canvas, with glass doors, large windows and a permanent roof, and every one of them has a wooden deck with a day bed, two chairs and a table. The ensuite bathrooms have showers, hot and cold running water, hairdryers and a mini bar stocked on request. There are three categories: the Mara Deluxe tents, with a queen-size bed or twin beds; the two-roomed Tented Suites, meant for families travelling with children; and the Olchani Luxury Club tents, with glass panel doors, a large viewing deck and exclusive access to the Olchani Club Lounge (this category takes guests aged 13 and over only).

Between game drives there is a free-form swimming pool with its own pool bar, the Tulia wellness tent for massages and treatments, a mini golf course with equipment for guests to use, a stocked fish pond for a bout of sport fishing, and the Adia gift shop. A good part of what reaches the table comes from the camp's own organic vegetable and herb garden, which you can walk through with the chefs and where a private meal can be cooked for you. The camp runs game drives in equipped Land Rovers with binoculars and drinking water on board, hot air balloon safaris at sunrise, guided nature walks with a Maasai Moran, and visits to the neighbouring Isokon Maasai cultural village.
