Why it works
A place with a sense of place.
Oilepo Amboseli Safari Lodge stands 800 metres from Amboseli National Park, with Kilimanjaro on the horizon. It is a small place: five tented chalets and two family cottages. Each tent has a queen-size bed under a mosquito net, a seating area, a private bathroom with a bathtub, and a veranda facing the bush. The two family cottages have two bedrooms — one with a king bed, the other with two twin beds — a shared toilet, a living room, a kitchenette and a private porch looking out over the Amboseli grasslands, and they are furnished with local antiques and artwork.
The restaurant takes its decoration from the Maasai and the terrace faces the park waterhole, where elephants and giraffes come down to drink; the kitchen cooks Kenyan and international dishes and takes dietary requests made at the time of booking. There is an outdoor pool open every day of the week, with sun loungers, and a spa for massages and facials. At night a bonfire is lit for stargazing and for stories, and game drives into Amboseli leave from the lodge itself.
We recommend accommodation only when it fits the route, the season, your pace and the value you expect.
