Le Rustique Hotel

Le Rustique Hotel is on the Mount Kenya road in Nanyuki, at the foot of the mountain. The 10 rooms are tucked behind the main buildings, surrounded by gardens and facing out onto them, and each one has its own terrace. Nine rooms have large queen beds and one has twin beds; a cot for a baby and extra beds are available on request. Every room has a TV, a desk and chair, a safe, free Wi-Fi, mosquito nets over the beds and a spacious en suite bathroom with a solar hot water shower. Locally produced organic toiletries, a bathrobe and a hairdryer are provided, along with a self-service tea and coffee station. All rooms are non-smoking, and laundry is available on request.

The dining room is Mediterranean with a Moroccan feel — an open fire, hardwood ceilings, original flagstone floors — and the kitchen cooks modern Mediterranean dishes from organic and continental artisan ingredients, with a wine list drawing on classic châteaux and newer regions. In the garden there is an open-air heated swimming pool, 8 metres long and 1.5 metres deep, with a shallow semicircle for small children, sunbeds in sun or shade, and restaurant and bar service at the water's edge; the pool is for residents only. A short walk away, Le Shop is the hotel's own deli and cheese bar.
