The Essential Komodo
Padar, pink sand, dragons and mantas in one private day
Voyages — 2 days / 1 night
One night at anchor, two mornings the day boats never see
The voyage
A compact overnight that reaches the park's best hours. You sail out of Labuan Bajo after breakfast, climb Kelor for a first look at the islands, and walk Loh Buaya with a ranger in the late afternoon, when the day boats have turned for home. At dusk, thousands of flying foxes lift off Kalong and cross your bow. You sleep at anchor, stand on Padar's saddle at sunrise, then spend the morning on pink sand and over the manta cleaning stations before sailing back.

Hour by hour
We leave Labuan Bajo harbour after breakfast and anchor first at Kelor, a tiny islet with a short, steep climb and clear water for a first snorkel. Lunch is served as we motor south to Rinca. At Loh Buaya a ranger leads you on foot; the walks are mandatory, and the rangers know where the dragons rest — most afternoons they are there, unbothered by the heat. By late afternoon the day boats have turned for home. We anchor off Kalong and wait on deck as thousands of flying foxes lift off at dusk, a slow river of wings against the last light.
The crew wakes you in the dark with coffee. The trek to Padar's saddle takes 30 to 45 minutes on steep steps; sunrise is the quietest hour, and you look down on three curved bays as the light comes up. Back on board, breakfast, then a short run to Pink Beach, where fragments of red organ-pipe coral blush the sand. At Karang Makassar you drift-snorkel over the cleaning stations — mantas are most reliable December to March, possible year-round. A last swim off the sandbar at Taka Makassar, and we sail back to Labuan Bajo by mid-afternoon.
Every departure is private, so every departure can change. Add a day, slow it down, swap an island. Tell us what matters and we shape it around you.
